The author of Spoonie Lifestyle has a complicated Irish name uncommon in the United States, so please refer to her as Megan. When she is not a graduate student, she is a ukuleleist, baker, abstract artist, cartoonist, thrifty fashionista, and glitter aficionado. She is not affiliated with @thespooniebard twitter handle, that is someone else. If you should wish to contact her, please comment on one of her blog posts. You can also email her.
Yes, Megan is a certified Chronically Ill Person, or Spoonie. Her diagnosis is complex. She has been suffering from extreme swelling and possible gout attacks. Her doctor suspects Rheumatoid Arthritis. Right now she is being treated for fibromyalgia and lupus. Chronic pain is very real for her and many other people around the globe, which is why she created this blog. She wants to remind herself and others that even though illness and pain are real, horrible and huge parts of her life and your life, they are not who you are.
Megan’s sole aim with this site is to help herself and others. One day, her hope is to change the world. Right now her big project to save the planet is through weddings. If you’re here, you might have heard of it – it’s called Wedding Planning for Spoonies, an all-inclusive reference guide for couples planning their wedding when one or both of them has a disability or chronic illness. The book aims to support couples, their loved ones, vendors, and wedding planners alike, as well as show the world that people do love disabled people. We are here, we are loved, and we need to be seen.
